How many grams of clip-in extensions do I need?

Hoeveel gram clip-in extensions heb ik nodig?

The right weight of clip-in extensions determines whether your look appears natural and full. The choice depends on your hair thickness, hair length, and your goal: extra volume only or length as well. Luxury for Princess offers 100% Remy Human Hair clip-ins from 80 to 320 grams in lengths of 56 and 61 cm, with silicone-coated clips for a secure, comfortable hold. New to clip-ins? First read what clip-in extensions are. Compare set weights in our clip-in extensions. Unsure between two weights? Choose the heavier option. You can always leave out one weft for a lighter look, but you cannot add volume to a set that is too light. This is how you determine exactly how many grams of clip-in extensions you need.

Quick advice by hair type and goal

  • Fine or thin hair - volume only: 80 grams provides a subtle, natural boost without weighing down your hair, for example with The Volumizer (1 weft, not a full set). For slightly more body, consider 160 grams if your hair is not too short.
  • Fine or thin hair - length and volume: 160 grams provides visible length and fullness. If your haircut is sleek and blunt, choose 220 grams for a better blend.
  • Normal hair - volume only: 160 grams delivers a full, airy result. If you have lots of layers or want extra density, choose the Princess Super Deluxe at 220 grams (22”).
  • Normal hair - length and volume: 220 grams provides full yet natural-looking length in most cases. With a longer set, such as the Princess Superior at 61 cm, or with a blunt cut, 260 grams or more is recommended.
  • Thick or abundant hair - volume only: 200-220 grams provides noticeably more fullness without becoming too heavy. For glam volume or shorter, fuller looks, 260 grams is suitable.
  • Thick or abundant hair - length and maximum fullness: 260-320 grams ensures length with consistent density all the way to the ends, especially with the longest set of 61 cm.

Quick rule: the thicker your own hair and the longer the set, the more grams you need to keep the ends full and blend the roots beautifully.

Length and haircut: why longer sets require more grams

Length requires grams. The longer the clip-in set, the more hair is needed to make the ends look full. With a shorter set, you can use fewer grams than with a longer one because the weight is distributed over more centimeters at longer lengths. If you also wear your hair in a sleek, blunt-cut style, you need extra density to soften the transition from your own hair to the extensions. Layers in your haircut make blending easier, so you may sometimes be able to wear a lighter weight for the same visual result. Unsure about the right length? Read which clip-in extension length to choose.

Practical example: normal hair with a 56 cm set looks full with 160-220 grams. If you choose the Princess Superior at 61 cm, 280 grams provides the same density. If you have thick, blunt-cut hair and want a lot of length, 260-320 grams is often the safest choice.

Which Luxury for Princess set is right for you

Our sets mainly differ in weight - the higher the gram weight, the more volume and fullness you get. All sets are made from 100% Remy Human Hair and come as full head sets with multiple wefts that you can place flexibly or leave out.

  • 80 grams: ideal for fine hair that wants a natural volume boost without length or with subtle length, such as The Volumizer.
  • 160 grams: an all-round choice for fine to normal hair with visible length and volume. Popular if you are unsure between a light and medium weight.
  • 220 grams: a safe go-to for normal to thicker hair, or if you always want enough hair for full ends when adding length.
  • 260-320 grams: for thick hair, glam volume, or the longer 61 cm set. If you want guaranteed full ends and maximum density, choose from this range.

Our sets are designed for easy use at home, with silicone-coated clips for extra grip. Need just a few extra grams on top of your basic set? Explore The Volumizer collection. Still unsure about the weight or color? Request free color advice and benefit from fast worldwide delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Is 100 grams enough for clip-in hair extensions?

Not for most looks. 100 grams is often too light to provide both length and fullness, especially if your hair is thicker rather than fine. If you only want subtle volume for fine hair, a single weft such as The Volumizer (80 grams) is enough. For length, we generally recommend 160 grams or more, depending on your hair type and desired length.

How many packs of clip-in extensions do I need?

With Luxury for Princess, you buy a full head set, not separate packs. One set contains multiple wefts that together make up the recommended weight. This means you do not have to work out how many individual pieces or packs you need. If you fall between two weights, choose the heavier option and leave out a weft if needed.

Are 110 gram or 150 gram clip-ins better?

The best weight depends on your hair and goal. For fine hair that only needs volume, a lightweight solution such as The Volumizer (80 grams) is ideal. For length or extra fullness in fine to normal hair, the 160 gram Princess Deluxe is more suitable. If you have a blunt-cut hairstyle or want longer lengths, choose a higher weight for full ends.

How do I determine how many grams of clip-in extensions I need?

Consider three factors: hair thickness, current length, and your desired result. Fine hair that only needs volume requires fewer grams than thick hair with added length. The longer the set, the more grams you need to keep the ends full. If you are unsure, choose the heavier weight - you can always leave out a weft.
